| Dear Desipina members, friends and supporters: This year Desipina had a season of unprecedented growth. We presented productions and readings of FOURTEEN brand new plays by Desi and East Asian writers. We launched CoLab, a collaborative writers' and actors' group that meets once a month to develop new work. Amid this whirlwind of new theater, we produced three short films, including Saving Hinduism by CoLab member Rakesh Chaudhary, which recently screened at Mahindra IAAC Film Festival. Desipina's inaugural short film, Modern Day Arranged Marriage, has gone on to international recognition including airing on MTV's LOGO Network, winning Audience Choice Award at NBC's Short Cuts Festival, and screening at festivals in London, Montreal, and across the country. |
As we look towards next season, we find ourselves at a point where the opportunities we want to provide these artists far outstrips ticket sales.
