ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: Rehana Mirza
Rehana Mirza is a screenwriter, playwright and director, whose work has been featured and distributed worldwide.
She has written and directed seven shorts: the award-winning Modern Day Arranged Marriage, (which has played in over thirty festivals Internationally), Love Story, Ode to NYC, Looking Good, Feeling Better, Memory & Dream, Fillum Star: The Peter Patel Story, Sightlines and Dear Santa. Her feature screenwriting credits include There's Something About Marriage (IFP Emerging Narrative Selection), Tiger Meat, Paradise, Quarter Life Crisis, and Far from Home (Sundance Feature Film Labs Finalist). She makes her fiction feature writing and directorial debut with Hiding Divya.
Her full-length play, Barriers, premiered at HERE Arts Center in New York City to sold-out audiences before being co-produced by the Asian American Theatre Company in San Francisco/Los Angeles. Other stage plays have been presented in New York (Culture Project, EST, The Flea, Tenement Museum, DR2Lounge), Los Angeles (Artwallah), Toronto (Rasik Arts), Philadelphia (Asian American Centre) and Washington, D.C. (Arth).
Mirza received a Lower Manhattan Cultural Council artist grant for HIDING DIVYA and was a 2002 Independent Feature Project trainee. She was a Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholar, John Golden Award Recipient, and is published via Alexander Street Press. She was selected as a P2 for a Cause Recipient to shoot a PSA regarding Thalassemia in the South Asian and Asian communities and is also currently a member of Ma-Yi Theatre's writer's lab. Mirza graduated with honors from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dramatic Writing and a minor in Asian Pacific American Studies. She has a MFA in Playwriting from Columbia University.
PRODUCING DIRECTOR: Rohi Mirza Pandya
Rohi has garnered attention for her numerous producing accomplishments in the film, television and theater industries. Film producing credits include: the award-winning short Modern Day Arranged Marriage and the upcoming feature film Hiding Divya (http://www.hidingdivya.com ) starring Madhur Jaffrey, Pooja Kumar and Deep Katdare. Both films are currently on the international film festival circuit. TV producing credits include: the award-winning mini-series Finding My America , the 2005 & 2006 SASA Specials and the 2005 DesiClub.com South Asian Media Awards.
Theater producing credits include: Prince of Delhi Palace, Broke, Barriers a play which addresses the backlash against South Asians post 9/11 and the award-winning & popular Seven.11 series. Seven.11 is a show that consists of seven eleven minute plays all set in a convenience store which for the last five years consistently bridged the gap between the South Asian and Asian communities.
She holds a MBA from the University of Colorado and a BA in Economics and Political Science from Rutgers University.
DIRECTOR OF MEDIA RELATIONS: Gitesh Pandya
Gitesh Pandya is the producer of the Indian-American comedy, American Desi which was released internationally in 2001. He is also a South Asian media consultant whose clients have included Universal Pictures, Fox Searchlight, and USA Films. Pandya is also the editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com and the box office analyst for CNN International hosting a weekly movie preview segment every Friday. His industry analysis is frequently quoted in USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, and other major publications
COLAB Co-Director: Rakesh Chaudhary
Rakesh Chaudhary is a director and producer. He grew up on a steady staple of Bollywood films in Bombay, and is fascinated by the power of visual story telling mediums like photography, animation and film. His favorite film makers include Guru Dutt, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood and the Coen brothers.
Rakesh has been part of Desipina & Co. since 2006, and thrives on the creative and collaborative environment of the group. While at Desipina, Rakesh directed Saving Hinduism - a short comedy (2007) showcased at the MIAAC film festival in New York, Everyone is Welcome - a short animation (2006), and is currently producing Love Story - a short film written and directed by Rehana Mirza. Rakesh has also directed/produced two short documentaries Door Step School (2005) and Kwik Meal (2004).
MARKETING ASSOCIATE: Rowena Harry
After attending a past Seven-11 production Rowena was prompted to join the Desipina & Co. team. "Working within Desipina to foster growth; giving voice to individual as well as global issues of personal concern, is an invaluable opportunity." Her background in marketing, event planning and operations along with her enthusiasm and optimism makes her job at Desipina & Co.less work and more play(s)!
MANAGING ASSOCIATE: Meetu Chilana
Meetu is a singer, songwriter and actress. She has been with Desipina for the past two years and really enjoys the production side as well.
CREATIVE ASSOCIATE: Jessica Bhargava
Jessica is a recent NYU Tisch graduate. She spends her spare time singing in a rock band, working on shows, reading voraciously, watching Bollywood movies, and writing stories. Since graduating, she plans to actively pursue her dreams of acting, producing, and directing. She has worked with Desipina for three years of her college career and somehow still managed to graduate. She loves all of the Desipina family and can't wait for the future productions, fun, and friends that will ensue in the upcoming years.
RESIDENT DESIGNER: Shehab Hossain
Shehab has been part of Desipina & Co. since 2007 and helps guide and implement Desipina & Co. set design needs. He is an architect by trade and has a sarcastic wit in the night.
TECHNICAL SUPEVISOR: Enayet Rasul
Enayet has been part of Desipina & Co. since 2005 and helps guide and implement Desipina & Co. technical needs. He helps saves the world one IT crisis at a time at the United Nations Development Programme.
MANAGING ASSOCIATE: Vikram Bhat
Until recently, Vikram was a trader at a Wall Street firm. Now, he's happily unemployed. He is taking the year off to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. He's passionate about film & theatre and harbors secret ambitions of being a screenwriter someday. He has been a fan of Desipina & Co.'s work since the first time he was exposed to Seven.11 and is very excited about working with them.
CREATIVE DIRECTOR: Nilou Moochhala
Nymdesign is a graphic design studio with over 8 years of experience in the cultural, educational, and non-profit fields. Our clients include Amnesty International, United Nations, Yale University, and Aangan India, among others. We have worked on a variety of different media including website design, print design ranging from brochures to published books, logo and identity development, and exhibition design.
Niloufer Moochhala, the principal of Nymdesign, received her Masters of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from the Yale University School of Art. Prior to this, she obtained her BA in Fine Arts from Mount Holyoke College. She is a visiting critic at the Maryland Institute College of Art and has taught graphic design at SUNY Purchase. In her free time, Ms. Moochhala examines issues of cross-cultural mixing and change from a visual perspective.
